What a beautiful sight!  I have to say that I have totally underestimated how much the birth of this little girl would affect me.  This truly ranks right up there with the birth of my own daughters!  Congratulations, Alycia and Aaron.  You two and God have created a beautiful little girl.

Alycia made the rather astute observation to me the other day that, while giving birth is probably one of the most common occurrences in the world-wide human experience, there is nothing else that can change our lives as much as the birth of a baby.

I looked it up….there are something like 150 babies born around the world every single minute.  That’s about 9,000 each hour, or 216,000 per day.   Here in the United States, there are about 450 babies born each hour, or around 10,800 each day.   There’s probably more babies born each minute than broken limbs or heart attacks (I’ll have to Google that!)

But while it is such a common occurrence, isn’t it true that nothing can change the lives of other human beings more than the addition of a new baby?  Think about it – whether you’re the parent, sibling, grandparent, aunt or uncle, you look upon the event of a new birth in the family as a monumental occasion, don’t you?  We’ve all been through this, either as a participant or an observer.  Can you think of anything more life-changing?  I certainly can’t.

Thanks God!
