“Christmas Eyes”

Look into those newborn eyes and tell me what you find
Can you see the perfect innocence in a newborn baby’s mind?
Her world is still pristine and fresh, as the gears just start to turn
The canvas there is so totally blank, so much for her to learn

Once subtle shades of grays and blacks, one-dimensional views
Gradually become vibrant scenes filled with reds and blues
As she starts to notice cause and effect, how this sound has that meaning
Those eyes are letting imprints form, new images are teeming

They are Christmas Eyes, fresh from God and all they see is new
Closer to Him than any of us, they see only what’s good and true

How I wish that I could keep those eyes shielded and protected
From the evil, mean and harmful things.  Can’t I keep her unaffected?
But then again, on the other hand I have so much to show her
Waterfalls, mountains, and stars that awe and how to take a picture!

Maybe God will use those eyes to study something new
To fix something or make us well or give a new point of view
Christmas is newness, hope and joy, when the greatest became the smallest
A season of new light all around, but those Christmas Eyes shine the brightest!

They are Christmas Eyes, fresh from God and all they see is new
Closer to Him than any of us, they see only what’s good and true

  1. Beautiful point of view from a Grandad who sees the potential in all around him… especially in a special little girl.

  2. What a great new present you all have been blessed with this year and she is a very lucky little girl to have “great” grandparents like you two! I hope to make your Christmas party this year!
